Being Prepared for My Session at SG Studios
Thank you so much for your business and trusting us with your music project. We want all of our Client Family to have a creative and successful recording experience during their stay with us.
Here is a list of things that will help you save money and have a great session.
We offer our guest the use of our WIFI network. You can log into SGSTUDIOS-GUEST with the passphrase: sgstudios8131.
BE ON TIME: If your session is an hourly rate your time starts when you have booked not when you show up. If your session is on a contract basis, being late will waste time that could be used on recording or mixing.
ARRANGEMENTS: Make sure to chart or (sketch) out the arrangement of each song before coming to the studio. Include on the chart, tempo, key, and time signature. Also bring lyric sheets of each song not only for you but for the engineer. These will be useful if changes are made to any arrangements or lyric and will help the session flow quicker and smoother. If you do not know how to write a chart just do the best you can to sketch out the song.
NON ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL: Unless someone is necessary or involved in the recording process do not bring them to the studio. Having too many people in the studio can be a distraction to the engineer, producer, and to the band.
SESSION BACKUP: SG Studios records directly into a cloud system that backs up our sessions as they are being recorded but it is best to bring an external hard drive for a safety backup each day or at the end of the session. SG Studios will not be held responsible for lost data or sessions. SG Studios will make an extra back up copy on a thumb drive for $50.00 to cover the cost of the time and the drive.
GUITARIST/BASSIST: make sure your instruments are set up and the intonation is correct. If your instrument is not working properly it is impossible to capture a great take and can cost valuable time and money.
AMPLIFIERS: Make sure all amps are in perfect working order before coming into the studio. Make sure tubes are good and amps are free of shorts, buzzes, and rattles.
DRUMMERS: should bring a variety of sticks, brushes, bundle sticks, and mallets. Make sure to have your tuning key, moon gel, and as many different snare drums and cymbals as possible. Make sure all of your drumheads are fresh and bring an extra snare head.
THE BAND: and individual musicians should practice all songs, and parts to a metronome or click track prior to coming into the studio.
WHAT SG STUDIOS PROVIDES:
We want the performers to concentrate on performing and not the day-to-day issues of life. Here are some of the things we offer our clients. If there is anything you need for your session please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.
We have put together emergency kits for most anything a musician may need. We have strings, picks, sticks, drum keys, moon gel and accessories for most issues that may come up.
Even though we prefer our clients to bring their own instruments, SG Studios does have quality instruments for use at the studio. We have a studio drum kit, many amps, guitars, basses, and a large collection of vintage guitar pedals. For a complete list visit our website at www.sgstudiostx.com/gear or cartage anything else you may need.
For use of the drum kit there will be a $60.00 maintenance charge per project.
We provide our clients with a variety of drinks while at the studio. We keep (Coffee, Soft Drinks, Bottled Water, and hot water with Honey and Lemon for vocals.) If there is anything else you would like to have for your session we will be glad to provide it (additional charges may apply).
Hearing is one of the most important things in the studio. SG Studios has many different brands and styles of headphones. If there is a certain set you prefer please let us know prior to the session and we will be glad to have the headphones you prefer on hand (equipment rental prices may apply). We also welcome you to use your in ear monitors if you like.
Microphones are extremely important to the recording process. SG Studios has a nice collection of mics but if there is something you need that we do not have let us know 2 weeks in advance and we will have it on hand for your session (equipment rental prices may apply).
Living and travel accommodations are sometimes necessary on longer sessions. We would be glad to help you make arrangements for your travel and hotel with one of the local hotels close to our facility.
If there is anything you need for your session please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
